Westcom now carry out Portable appliance testing.
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that 'any electrical system be constructed, maintained, and used in such a way as to prevent danger'.
In result it is recommended that a system of inspection and testing is needed in order to determine the need for maintenance.
PAT is preventitive maintenance - it helps to reduce the risk of electric shock and burns, faults that may cause fire, and fire or explosion where electricity could cause ignition.
Many fire services and Insurance Companies require businesses to have a regular PAT inspection before safety certificates or policies are issued.

• Microwave Radio Refurbishment
Currently we are refurbishing P-Com and DMC radio links in the frequency range 13GHz to 38GHz. Turnaround time is one week, but we can fast track links in 24 hours dependant on specific customer requirements.
Each Unit is inspected for physical damage, stability tested for 24 hours, and then RF output and Receive levels checked. We produce an individual test sheet for each unit. Then we can either return these directly to the customer, or provide a store and management facility.

• Wi-Fi
Since 2003 we have been evaluating and maintaining a wealth of new Wi-Fi products.
We are now installing and maintaining Wi-Fi links and access points.
Current projects include supplying data links and IP cctv access for a national rail company and police authority.
We have evaluated and are currently running D-link, Linksys, and we are a certified Netgear partner.
Currently we are trialing Smartbridge and Redline 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz equipment for potential deployment.

• IP CCTV
In conjunction with our Wi-Fi activities we install and maintain web-based IP CCTV systems.We have several combinations available, from a four camera setup suitable for pubs and clubs using 100MBit cat5 cabling, to an eight camera setup with remote sited cameras using 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz Wi-Fi technology. We have recently been testing and installing Jpeg2000 and MPEG4 image compression systems which work in conjunction with some of the day/night colour cameras. These are fitted with wireless PCMCIA cards making Wi-Fi connectibility simple and affordable.
